'Ferst' books distributed in Gilmer County: Judy Harvey, chairperson of Kids Ferst in Gilmer County registered the first child for the program, Melody Wade, who will receive free books monthly by mail from the Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. The program is just getting started in Gilmer County and will be registering preschool children from birth - 4 1/2 yrs old. It's purpose to encourage reading and readiness to learn. The newly formed partnership between the Ferst Foundation of Childhood Literacy and the Ferst Community Action Team: Kids Ferst in Gilmer County held its first registration for preschool children at the Gilmer Community Food Pantry. Noah and Colby Underwood were among the first children to be signed up to receive free books, monthly in the mail. To support this literacy program, donations may be sent to: Kids Ferst in Gilmer County, P.O. Box 105, Ellijay, GA 30540, make the check out to the "Ferst Foundation. There will be an ongoing registration every Wednesday for children under the age of 4 1/2. The Gilmer Community Food Pantry is located at 266 Sailors Dr. # 5 in Ellijay and it is open from 10 a.m. till 12:45 p.m. every Wednesday.
